First Week in the Field

Image
November 22, 2021 I was told that my emails are very formal and don't sound like me, so I am going to try to write this like I would be texting/talking to someone.  This week was insane! I am done with the training portion of my mission so I took the frontrunner (which is basically a train) to Layton Utah. People make a big deal about this train, but it's just a train. My new comp is sick. For those that don't know a companion (comp) is the dude you live with for a month and a half (maybe more). Elder Steed is always smiling and I love it. It makes me more positive. We are living in a member of the churches home, and it is really nice! We have an open living/dining area. Soooo big, soo nice. We have an extra room that Elder Steed is using as a closet lol. The week was kinda slow to start. We are white washing the area, meaning we are both new to the area, which makes meeting people hard. After we met more members in the area, we are becoming more confident and comfortable i...

November 15, 2021 This week was pretty neat. I ate some food, learned more about how much God loves all of us, and hung out with my district. IT'S SO CRAZY THAT WE ARE LEAVING THE MTC TOMORROW!! I will be out in Layton, Utah helping people come closer to Christ. This is great, but I am freaking out! I know I can and will do it. There is a scripture somewhere that says something like "All things are possible through Christ" (I could look it up but you get the idea). Anyway, to summarize my MTC experience, I would say this. Horns Down, god is Good.  Pictures:  1. My district and Brother Kuhn 2. My district (Horns Down) 3. Elder Coverley's stolen soap collection  4. My district and Sister Johnson

This is an email about me. Hi.

November 10, 2021   Hello Everybody!!! This is Eric (Elder) Macfarlane, and I am finally at the MTC (missionary training center) in Provo Utah.  Summary and pictures at the end ;). I got in the physical about a week ago now. I finally got to meet my teachers and my district (the 11 people I'm with most of the day). We have a lot of fun joking around, messing with each other, playing games, and just hanging out. I was surprised how comfortable everyone was right when we met in person. That might be because we were in online classes for about a week and a half, but it's not like we were going to unmute to crack jokes on zoom, so we weren't really that close before. Same with the teachers. I think the hardest thing to be limited with is music. I love music and I have always played music/ listened to music whenever I'm bored. To summarize, me with no music = sad.  I can literally never sleep well here. My bed squeaks so loud whenever I move an inch, I get up at leas...

November 3, 2021 Corry and I took Eric to the Colorado Springs airport early in the morning. Some sweet missionaries took our picture when we got inside. They immediately saw us and came up to shake Eric's hand. There's a brotherhood in being a missionary. You stick together and take care of one another. I love that. Eric flew to Salt Lake City, Utah where his cousin, Mariah, picked him up from the airport. She took him back to her house where Aunt Stacey was waiting for him. Mariah and Stacey took him out to Cafe Rio before they took him to BYU where he got to say goodbye to a few of his friends. Then they dropped him off at the MTC! I'm going to miss this kid! I'm proud of him for making this decision to serve. I know he's going to do great things in the two years that he serves the Lord in the Utah Layton Mission.
